THE GRENADIER AND THE LADY is a graceful English folk song, thoughtfully arranged for elementary harp. This arrangement is in A minor, requiring no lever changes, and is suitable for small harps with a bass C as the lowest pitch. Fingering and bracket support are included, making it an accessible and lyrical addition to any harpist’s repertoire.

This piece is so much fun to play and has several different teaching moments. My harp teacher said that she really likes the pieces arranged by Anne, so I got to practice and play one of her pieces for the past several weeks! This is the piece I am learning for this week. Yea! There are advantages to being an older (age 72) adult learner because I get to play the pieces that I like, not just etudes and exercises.
I first learned the shorter free piece but wanted the longer version. My only suggestion would be to provide one with and one without fingerings. I already had fingered the original piece which is different from how you did. So I will have to white out your fingerings now. But it is lovely. I hope you can offer it both ways. People finger differently. Thanks! 😊
This is the third late beginner piece I have learned and I very much enjoyed the challenge of the brackets on the right hand and the change in pattern on the left. Mastering this piece has helped my general playing and made my previous pieces feel easier to play. It is just a beautiful piece to listen to and play :)
I'm so glad to hear this! Sounds like you'll soon be ready for Scarborough Fair! - Anne
This song was easy enough to learn in one day. I really enjoy the melody leading into the song, and it is fun to play. All of Anne Crosby Gaudet’s arrangements and compositions are arranged so well, that there is learning at each level.
Thank you, Sharon! I appreciate your taking the time to write your kind reviews! - Anne
